Gather and depart from THSR Tainan Station exit no.4, and take the sightseeing bus to begin the Tainan coastal ecology tour.
Admire the picturesque scenery along the way, arrive at Southwest Coast National Scenic Area’s Jinzaijiao tile paved salt field. The Southwest Coast National Scenic Area is known for its sandbanks, marshes, river deltas, and wetlands, which are home to a large number of endemic bird species and serve as a resting place for many migratory birds during the winter. Besides its ecological value, this scenic area also has a lot of other attractions, such as the traditional production of salt from seawater, the local fishing industry, old temples and other historic sites that make a trip worthwhile. The salt industry was a high economic value industry controlled by the government during the Japanese Occupation Era, each salt field was guarded by an armed tower. The salt sun drying ground consists of two types, namely: tile-paved and earth-paved. Today, we will visit the Jinzaijiao tile-paved salt field, and you will be able to dry the salt and take it home; you may even try the waterwheel!
Arrive at the Cigu Seafood Street for lunch (self expense).
The afternoon itinerary begins at the Cigu Salt Mountain. Under the care of a group of volunteer workers, the 338 years of solar salt production history in Taiwan is now preserved in Taiwan Salt Museum at Qigu Township. The shape and the look of the salt piles are strategically designed so that the two piles look like two white pyramids arising high from the salt field.
After visiting the salt mountain, arrive at the ecological conservation area in southern Taiwan: Cigu Wetland. Every winter, Qigu wetlands is a popular location for bird lovers. Many migratory birds choose the Tsengwen river to spend their winter. Most commonly found is the black-faced spoonbill which is recognized by everybody. Qigu Lagoon is the biggest lagoon in Taiwan. This place has abundant ecological resources. Just for crabs, it has more than 30 kinds. Fish, shrimps, shellfishes are even more than 200kinds. They are how these 20,000 local people keep their means of livelihood. (Bird-watching period from every Sep. till next Mar.)
