Gather and depart from exit no.6 of THSR Taichung Station, and take the shuttle bus to begin today’s journey. |
Arrive at the most prominent Beigang Chaotian Temple, which is highly popular among its followers; several million followers visit the temple from Taiwan and overseas each year, as well as thousands of pilgrimage groups, making it an international Mazu temple. The temple was completed in 1912 and features the palace arrangement of Quaternary Architecture with Eight Palaces and One Square with Seven Courtyards. Mazu is worshipped by Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism followers. The wood carving, stone sculpture, ceramic cutting/pasting and Koji pottery are all artistic masterpieces created by master artists during the Qing Dynasty. |
Visit the Yunlin Plam Puppet Museum, which, aside from the exhibition of objects, also promotes the beauty of puppetry through modern technology. In terms of spatial arrangement, in addition to the exhibition space, there is also a refreshment & resting area, open-air stage area, teaching area and exhibition area, which may be used by the public for diverse purposes. |
The most renowned processed towel products of the early years of Taiwan are exhibited during the tour of the towel factory, where the public may witness the production process of towels and come to know how to select quality towels. The product’s exquisite design in the form of unique towel cakes is favored by everyone. |
After the tour of the factory, Xiluo is the next stop. Zhenwen Academy is a class three historic monument in Yunlin County, which was formerly the Wen Chang Di Jun Shrine. It is over 170-years-old and was one of the four major academies in Yunlin at the time, where literati and scholars gathered to share poetry. The academy now worships Confucius, Cang Sheng Zhu Xi and Wu Wen Chang Jun, and the overall design is elegant and well-proportioned. |
For the return trip, the bus will pass through the Xiluo Bridge, which was completed in 1953. At the time of completion, it was the second largest bridge in the world after the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco; it was also the largest bridge in the Far East. Although its transportation significance is no more, it remains a landmark of Xiluo. |
